Letter to the Editor

Hurricane damage

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Dear Editor,

Recently I sent you information about Dallas McMurtrey, son of Brett and Brenda McMurtrey.

They are former residents of McCook. She served on the Water Advisory Committee. Brent was superintendent of schools at Republican Valley. He is now a supervisor and principal at Rock Springs, Wyoming. Brenda is getting her degree to become a special education teacher.

Fortunately, Dallas, who is now serving in the Philippines as a Mormon missionary, arrived after the typhoon hit on Nov. 8, 2013.

It has been named Typhoon Haiyan. 1.1 million houses were destroyed by it, 6,300 people were killed, 28,000 were injured and 3 million people were displaced. 1,785 are still missing.

Dallas is not only involved in typical missionary activities, but he is no doubt helping assist international relief organizations. They are removing debris, furnishing food and supplies and finding shelter for victims.

Sincerely,

Helen Ruth Arnold,

Trenton, Nebraska
