Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Dear Editor,

In early Jauary 2014, I watched a program on the Nebraska educational channel. It confirmed that China's problems are complicated ones.

Key players over the centuries have been a series of emperors. The people believed their emperor was a parent of the persons living in their country.

If he ruled badly, they said heaven would show its displeasure.Their last emperor was overthrown in 1912.

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen was elected president of China in 1921. One of his followers was Chiang Kai-Shek, a patriot and soldier. They wanted to form a democratic government. Sun Yat-Sen died in 1926.

Japan launched an invasion of Manchuria and four northern provinces. Central China was controlled by Chinese communists.

Chiang married Madame Chiang Kai-Shek, a graduate of Wellesly College in the U.S. She was born in Shanghai in 1898. Her English was perfect. He as a military man who wanted to rescue China, but only spoke the Chinese dialect of Chekiang where he was born in 1886.

They sought the help of the United nations when be became president of China in 1947. The communist Chinese conquered mainland China in 1950. Chiang moved his headquarters to Formosa. Madam Chiang Kai-Shek lved to be 103 and fled to the U.S.
