100th birthday

The family of Florence Phillips of McCook is hosting a celebration of her 100th birthday Saturday, July 20, 2013, 204 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 214 E. Second in McCook. Please consider this your invitation to help her celebrate this milestone birthday! Florence was born in North Platte, Nebraska, on July 21, 1913. She grew up in North Platte and graduated high school in 1930. She then went to Midland College to become a teacher and in 1935, was the homecoming queen. She taught school in Gurley and then went to work in the office of Lowe Construction. In 1946, she married Webster Phillips and they started their life together in McCook with daughter, Karen and son, Ron in 1953. She was a housewife and mother and was also active in the First Congregational Church, singing in the choir and TTT Club. In 1995, she returned to Midland College reunion and was the oldest homecoming queen in attendance, 60 years. Her family includes her husband of 67 years, Web; daughter, Karen of McCook and son, Ron and wife, Karen of Washington State; grandchildren, Mike Evans and wife, Kathy of Grand Island, Michelle Martin and husband, Scott of McCook, Sara Evans of Hays, Kansas and Kailey Phillips of Washington State. Great-grandkids include Mike Evans Jr. and wife, Jeneka of Grand Island, Bobby Ducharme of McCook, Preston Ducharme and wife, Stephanie of Grand Island, Alexis Martin, Austin Martin, C.J. Martin and Kaylin Martin, all of McCook; great-great-grandkids are Kyron Evans of Grand Island, Aaliyah Ducharme of Grand Island and one more Ducharme on the way.
