Letter to the Editor

Precious memories

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Dear Editor,

In reading the weekly column of Mike Hendricks -- Song Doctor, it struck a note with me thinking of the music in my early background growing up that never leaves me.

Our church was very active with singing of rousing hymns and lively and meaningful chorus.

There were solos, duos and quartets made up of our own congregation.

I have in my memory, Amazing Grace, Since Jesus Came Into My Heart, Redeemed, How Great Thou Art, and maybe before those, Jesus Loves Me, This I Know.

I have held these memories of many of these songs though I am not as musical as other members of my family are that are an encouragement to my faith and trust in Jesus the Lord.

I have noticed many popular and country western and pop singers who began their career in the church, singing specials, who almost always make an album of gospel music.

I think of King David who wrote many of the Psalms (which) are songs that are a help and encouragement to many who will read them.
