Iowa man receives jail time for abuse

McCOOK, Nebraska -- A 71-year-old Oskaloosa, Iowa, man was sentenced to jail time and ordered to register as a sex offender following his conviction in Red Willow County District Court on felony abuse of a vulnerable adult. According to court documents the offender, Jerry L. Gilbert, accepted a plea agreement in January which admitted guilt to the Class 3A felony offense, in exchange for the state not prosecuting him for any actions committed by him against the same victim occurring after Aug. 19, 2012.

Gilbert was subsequently sentenced, March 4, to 180 days in county jail with credit given for 27 days already served and ordered to register as a sex offender.

The charge against Gilbert stated that through an intentional act he caused or permitted a vulnerable adult to be sexually abused, stemming from a August 19, 2012, incident in Red Willow County.

Other District Court activity for March 4, 2013:

* 36-year-old Paul A. Miller of 1606 W. Eighth Street pleaded not guilty to a Class IV felony offense of possession of methamphetamine. A motions hearing was scheduled in the case for April 1, 2013.
