Letter to the Editor

A rare opportunity

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Editor,

To the wonderful people in Southwest Nebraska and more specifically, McCook, you have been rewarded with an unbelievable opportunity. The new MCC Events Center, that I was fortunate to be able to see firsthand this past week, is a state of the art facility. The event center obviously took years of planning, a defined vision and a multitude of unselfish giving by a wonderful community. It is time to reap the benefits. How do you reap fruits of the sown seeds you ask? Be there. Fill the seats. Support your college.

With the primary use of the events center being athletics, the athletes at MCC need and want your support. The college provides an opportunity to athletes from the local area as well as out of state to advance their athletic and academic careers. Region IX, the region in which MCC athletics competes geographically, is a very competitive region. Past athletes from MCC and the region have reached the pinnacle of their respective sports by playing at major universities across this great country and some even professionally. The opportunity to witness unique and very gifted talent in a modern, first class gymnasium is right in your back yard.

While all of these athletes may not come from the local area, they all still have goals and dreams. Support their goals, feed their dreams. These are good kids. Race, ethnicity, color, creed or origin will not, and should not, cause waiver in your support for your hometown collegiate team. Trust me when I say, that when you see these athletes achieve their goals and realize their lifelong dreams, you will have immense satisfaction knowing you had a part in it.

This facility is amazing. The athletes are amazing. The community is amazing. Take this invitation to be a part of it. You will be glad you did.

Sincerely,

Kyle Miller
