Ground-breaking

Cambridge, Nebraska, Mayor Mark Harpst, right, and the Meeuwsen family -- from left, Eric, Dan, Robb, Arlen and Cliff -- turn over ceremonial spadesful of dirt prior to the construction of the new blender pump fueling station on the eastern edge of Cambridge. The station is the first development in the community's new 77-acre subdivision called "Harvest Meadows," Tammy Sexton, president of Cambridge Economic Development, told the 100-or-so gathered for the ground-breaking Friday morning. The station is being built by NCP Fuel Services LLC, which is an affiliate of Nebraska Corn Processing LLC, the grain processing plant capable of producing 44 million gallons of ethanol per year in Cambridge. Cliff Meeuwsen, president of NCP Fuel Services, said the new fueling station will have four flexible fuel pumps offering ethanol blends and three pump dispensers offering biodiesel blends. Meeuwsen spoke of the need in America for renewable fuel, and said that he and his family and company are proud to be able to provide competitive, high-quality fuels "made with the crops in the fields that we drive by every day." Construction starts this fall and is expected to be completed next summer.
