Beaver City fire destroys cafe, damages mechanic shop

BEAVER CITY, Nebraska -- Fire destroyed the Brandin' Iron restaurant and half of the Strayer Motor Company -- owned by fire chief Lee Strayer -- in downtown Beaver City, Nebraska, about 4 a.m., Sunday morning.

The buildings, at least 100 years old, housed the community's only cafe and bar and mechanic's shop. Strayer lost four classic cars in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
