Hurting economy

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Dear Editor,

You can imagine my dismay upon reading the McCook Gazette article of July 31, 2012 by Bruce Baker, City Editor, "Budget plan enacts fee for wireless". Our city council is working extremely hard to drive away current and future residents and businesses by this type of tax increase. Just recently, five businesses in town closed their doors.

When you raise taxes-- you hurt the economy. Got it? Keep raising taxes and you can kiss companies like Valmont and Parker Industries goodbye. Why should

they stay in a community where it continually costs them more to run their businesses?

LB165 was designed to lessen the burden of telephone occupation taxes across the state. If we want people to come to McCook, raising taxes is not the way to do it.

Kathleen Bills,

McCook, Nebraska
