Baler, not a combine

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Dear Editor,

While Bill Coe is an excellent photographer, finding and displaying shots that many of us would seldom see, his knowledge of the farming community leaves something to be desired. On page 2 of Monday's Gazette, there is a picture of a machine working in a wheat field, calling it a combine, making another round in a wheatfield.

Most of us would see that picture and call it a baler, making big round bales of wheat straw, which will be used either for bedding in the winter months, or much needed winter feed to extend the predicted short supply, due to the dry weather. Just a clarification for you.

Harold W. Carlson,

McCook, Nebraska

EDITOR'S NOTE -- The error was the editor's, not the photographer's.
