Attend caucus

Friday, April 13, 2012

Dear Editor,

In a free society, voting is a privilege that people in other parts of the world are fighting and dying to gain. Here, we tend to take it for granted and our voter turrnout is poor.

There are 6,440 registered voters in Red Willow County (1,492 Democrats, 3,835 Republicans, 1,113 nonpartisans (or independents). In order to vote in the primary elections in Nebraska, you have to be registered with one of the two parties.

The 2012 Nebraska Democratic Presidential Caucus will be held this Saturday, April 14. The Red Willow County Caucus will be at the Heritage Senior Center, located at West 5th and M Streets. Check-in and new registration will be at 10:30 a.m. The caucus will be held at 11 a.m., followed by a lunch and discussion time at 12:00.

Only registered Democrats may vote in the caucus. Persons wishing to register or re-register can do so Saturday morning. Anyone who is 17 and will be 18 by the Nov. 6 election date can also register at this time.

We are hoping for a good turnout and an opportunity to meet and visit with our fellow Democrats.

Betty Allen,

Red Willow County Democratic Chairman
