Farm, Ranch Expo continues to grow

Monday, November 14, 2011

The success of the McCook Farm & Ranch Expo should be no surprise, given the importance of agriculture in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas, but the fact the event continues to grow by leaps and bounds is evidence of good management, vendor and public support and the availability of the right venue in the form of the Kiplinger Arena on the Red Willow County Fairgrounds.

Skimming through the list of more than 100 exhibitioners also offers another clue, expanding diversity in the agricultural industry.

Yes, there is wide representation of irrigation, seed, chemical, and implement dealers and the businesses we have come to expect, but you'll also find at least one winery, solar and wind power company and many other surprises you will find interesting, whether you live on a farm or ranch or not.

The event opens at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday with a free producer breakfast and closes at 4 p.m. Thursday.

In between, there are chances to get an autograph from Southwest Nebraska Rodeo Queens, Miss Rodeo Nebraska Becky Grimm and world champion steer wrestler Dean Gorsuch, enjoy a horse training demonstration by Scott Daily, take in a Working Ranch Horse Sale and Benefit FFA Auction -- or enjoy a beer or get a flu shot, plus many other activities.

  • Not only a thanks to Mr. Kiplinger, but to Darren and Tana Dale for all the hard work they have put into this show as well as the Red Willow County fairboard members and many others who help set up/tear down and support this show. What a great opporunity for the community to come together and see the different aspects agriculture affects this area. There is something for everyone, so show your support and make a visit to show. Hats off to Darren and Tana and everyone else that help to make this show a success!!
