Cornhuskers ready for a new beginning
Friday, September 30, 2011
It's hard to believe anything can beat the Big Red fever that surrounds a normal football Saturday, but it's been a long time since we've experienced the anticipation surrounding Nebraska's Big 10 debut in Madison, Wisconsin.
Some 20,000 to 30,000 Nebraskans are expected to pour into the cheese state, pushing Internet bidding for a $49 ticket as high as $1,500.
Let's hope the Husker defense shows up as well, as it has its work cut out for it, giving up 133.2 yards rushing per game so far, to Wisconsin's 88.7. Odds-makers list Nebraska as a 91⁄2-point underdog.
Joining the Big 10 is something we've wanted to do for more than a century, petitioning to join the league for membership in 1900 and 1911.
Regardless of the outcome, it will be a new beginning for the Huskers, a chance to finally shake off the dust of the Pederson-Callahan years and leave Texas behind.
