Letter to the Editor

No terrorists? Thank Readiness Center

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Dear Editor,

There are a few fools who say the new Readiness Center just east of McCook is little more than a waste of time and money (around seven million dollars, and that's just for starters.)

This is sickening.

On the contrary, the center is a visual and cultural example of making democracy and capitalism work.

If you look out your window at night and see no terrorists attacking us, thank the Readiness Center.

Stephen Stramel,

McCook, Nebraska

  • I thank the soldiers for their efforts. I thank the soldiers families for their support which every soldier needs. The Readiness Center is truly no more than a fancy packaging for an already functioning necessity.

Although I do believe that our men and women in uniform deserve the best this Country has to offer, it's evident by their diligence in the foxholes of warfare, that the building doesn't make the warrior. It is a nice looking facility which can be seen in the darkest of night as it is tirelessly illuminated by the dozens of parking lot lights..... how much protective equipment could be provided for the cost of THAT electrical bill I wonder.

  • These men and women are called upon to train and be ready to deploy. The old facilities did not meet the requirements for these soldiers to be able to train. This is a much needed facility and will serve the community for years to come. Southwest Nebraska is lucky to have this facility and the jobs. Nick...it's called security lighting, wish it wasn't needed, but it is.
