No raises

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Editor,

It seems to me that many folks are getting raises all over town, while NOT a single senior citizen has received a raise in years.

Part of the reason for these "pay raises" are a direct result of unions affecting the police and fire departments. Just so everybody gets a fair shake -- all city employees and teachers are included too.

Last year, the Humane Soiety asked for an increase. This year it is the same story. Out of all of those receiving increases, I sincerely feel that the Humane Society deserves it. How many stray or abandonded dogs have you seen roaming the streets of McCook? That does not include all of the pet owners, whose pets accidentially got out of the house or yard. Openline on KICX has done a fantastic job announcing lost pets. Whatever became of the Animal Control Officer? That sure got hushed up quickly!

Ah! A new water slide. Before we get that, I sure would like to see a reduction in my sewer bill. How about you?

  • Personally, I think before raises or anything else, with the exception of emergency type items, the issue with the error on the plans of the new Safety Center needs to be addressed ASAP. Those who serve to protect and care for our lives and property in times of emergencies need those facilities as soon as possible.

Just my take on it...........Good point Kathleen.
