Letter to the Editor

Signs of intelligence?

Friday, April 29, 2011

Dear Editor,

I must take exception to Mike Hendrick's column in Friday's Gazette in which he used a broad brush to paint all true Christians as simple, uneducated people.

It certainly is not true in our church and in most churches that I know. Many have college educations. At one time I counted eight who were M.D.s or were dentists (D.D.S.) and a PhD who served as president of the school board. How about an editor, pharmacists or the many school teachers who also attend our church and many others who may not have college educations but possess NORMAL intelligence and have chosen to put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior?

Veterinarians, optometrists and pastors who not only were university graduates but attended seminary. Then there is a college instructor and a speech pathologist.

How about the Christian farmers who manage large farming and cattle feeding operations. Many of them are college and university graduates.

Where did you get your statistics? WHO compiled them? The Bible says "If the blind lead the blind, they will both fall into a ditch (crevasse)."

I had two uncles who graduated from the University of Nebraska with degrees in engineering and they were strong in their conviction "That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" and that "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 3:23 & 6:23. Another uncle graduated from Kearney State College and then went to Iowa State University at Ames and graduated with a doctorate in chemistry at the ripe old age of 23.

They never became agnostics. My own father and mother were also brilliant people, as was my father and mother-in-law and they whole heartedly embraced the faith.

Where do we get such unshakable faith? Romans 10:14 says, "Faith cometh by hearing the Word of God." Your faithful attendance at a Bible believing church will do much to enhance your faith. Daily Bible study and reading will do even more. Faith is a key component of understanding the Scripture, faith that causes you to repent of your sins by receiving Jesus Christ as your Savior. Jesus made the physically blind to see and he can give sight to those who are spiritually blind. When blind Bartamaus cried out to Jesus to heal him, Jesus healed him and gave him sight.

However, the "Mysteries", that cause agnosticism are a result of an unbelieving heart ... I Cor. 2:14, "But a natural (unsaved) man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised." It doesn't take a genius to choose heaven over hell, or an eternity with Christ, rather than an eternity with the Devil, it just takes FAITH.

Sincerely,

Paul Schneider

McCook, Nebraska

    You sound bitter!

Or is it you are jealous of some one who can absorb abstract ideas make sense of them?

Or do you just have a problem with people that read more than one book in their lifetime? There is a cure for both....get yourself a library card and start reading....you know someting that isnt on the internet!!!!

    Mr Schneider

Learn to quote something else in addition to the bible and you will be taken more seriously. In this letter you just sound brain washed.

    Peace

I find your comment very sad.

Through reading and education the sheep are less gullable and the herders are forced to lead more wisely.

The quality of life is greatly improved for everyone if they spend their life educating themselves. And reading as much as you can is a very good way to do that. You dont have to agree with every thing you read. Just open your mind to it. This gives you the tools to make up your own mind about things. Thus seaperating you from the herd!

I actually prefer my "herder" to NOT be a self-righteous religous fanatic. Thoes that quote the bible chapter and verse dont seem to know much of any thing else. This sheep is not easily herded by theese people and I accomplish this by reading every "**** book" I can get my hands on.(I am beginning to suspect I am one of thoes nasty liberals you dislike so much!)

I know you wont like it when I tell you that I beleive that Mr Hendricks would make a much wiser and more compassionate leader than..say..Mr Schnider would. I do not agree with every thing Mike writes but I respect his opinion. And even though it saddens me as I respect yours as well!

    "Just Sayin":^)

    Peace
