School concerns

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Dear Editor,

We are writing out of concern for our schools and the upcoming bond issue. We have been longtime members of the Culbertson community and I taught in Culbertson for many years.

We would encourage everyone to get out and vote on this issue. Our point of view is that we do need to vote FOR the bond issue which would add to some of the facilities we already have at both the Culbertson and Trenton sites. The schools at both of these sites have provided students an excellent education in the past and can continue to do so. Both towns would like to keep the population we have as well as the businesses, churches, and community pride. If you think about it, you will realize that staffing a school provides quite a few jobs in each town.

A nice school may be a source of pride that would prompt residents in maintaining their own properties. It would possibly also give students who wish to come back to their communities more of a reason to return and be productive citizens of their hometown. Without a school, it will be easier for people to do all of their business in the town where their children go to school.

Please consider the consequences of this bond issue not passing and the possibility of no school in either of our towns before casting your vote. Let's work together to build our communities by keeping our schools.

Sincerely,

Jeannette and Roland Miller

Culbertson

  • By the way, I understand your children attended McCook Schools. Your distrcit was encouraged to leave the county.

  • By the way, they own land in the McCook School District and pay taxes there also.
