A tribute
Dear Editor,
Floyd Hershberger was one of those unique individuals who made a difference--not only in the McCook community -- but to every individual whose life he touched. When we retired and moved 'back home' to Haigler 14 years ago, I was looking for a piano for our home. Floyd showed me many, but said I really should purchase the Baldwin upright concert grand. I did! When the Hershberger truck delivered it, who gets out of the truck? Floyd Hershberger! -- Not only did he deliver the piano, help move it and position it just so in the house; but then tuned it -- before driving another 75 miles back to McCook. This was the kind of individual and businessman he was.
Before my father died, there was his old banjo and his father's (my grandfather's) old violin. Could they be restored? You know who I went to see--Floyd Hershberger! Yes, he had connections. They were both restored. My father heard them played by musicians performing at the Hillcrest Care Center in Wray, Colorado. Not too long after, music was played on that banjo and violin at my father's funeral services.
Yes, Floyd Hershberger was one of those unique individuals who made a difference! He shall be greatly missed, but shall always be remembered for the music he brought into our lives.
