Build a refinery

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Dear Editor,

I have been reading about the Canadian pipeline going to Texas. Some want it -- they have their reasons. Some don't want it and they list their reasons.

Surely others have thought about this as I have - that's why I am writing.

Let's build a refinery in northern Nebraska. Texas refineries are going to have to be built to increase capacity. Either way, there has to be capital outlay.

Building here would create construction jobs, plus maintenance and work force jobs for Nebraska. We need to create jobs to keep people employed here and to bring people into our state. Also, it would create jobs for the distribution of the product such as trucks and drivers.

Jobs would also be created to help the ethanol industry. The ethanol factories in Nebraska need a place to go with their product.

We have a gold mine here that we are letting flow under our feet to Texas.

It doesn't make much sense to pipe oil to Texas, then turn around and pipe gas and diesel back to central and northern United States when we could have a refinery here.
