Let's honor Native Americans
Dear Editor,
A few days ago we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. as a federal holiday. This is all good, because he was a very important person that did a lot for not just the blacks but every minority.
February is coming and it is black history month; this also is very important to learn more about American history than what we are taught in school.
I have nothing against the blacks, for they have had a really bad past and deserve to be recognized for all their good efforts, and now for the first time in American history, we have our first black president.
There is a holiday for almost everything -- we have a celebration for the birth of Jesus Christ, and we reconize the fathers on Fathers Day as well as the mothers on Mothers Day and let's not forget our vets on Vets Day.
But what bothers me is there is not any day of the year where we recognize the American Indian. I just feel that the Indian is an important part of our American history.
Think about it; the Indians were here long before the white people, and the same as the black people. The white people are the ones that burned the homes of the Indians and moved them off their land and killed family members and we even had a war with them. There is not one month in the year that recognizes the American Indian and their history; it just appears to me that they are forgotten. Maybe someday we will have an American Indian history month. So I leave you with this thought, what did happen to the Indians?
