Change in the air

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Dear Editor,

There is change in the air.

Sen. Deb Fischer, because of her frustration with high telecommunication taxes levied against businesses and residents by cities across Nebraska created Legislative Bill 165.

Business owners of McCook have you had enough of being gouged by our city? You have a telephone, so customers can call you. Or, so you can call them. Right? The thanks you get is a 3 percent Telecommunications Tax, plus a 1.5 percent Sales Tax forced on you.

How do you like that? Talk to other business owners and learn how much they are getting hit time and again -- just like you. I say that this is BAD for business, because you pass the charges right along to us -- your customers.

I quote Dusty Vaughan, "You can always follow the progress of the bill at www.nebraskalegislature.gov, and of course are being afforded the opportunity to attend and/or testify at the public hearing. If you can't attend the hearing but still wish to voice your opinion, you can submit your written comments to the Revenue Committee and ask that they be made part of the record. This will ensure that the senators on the committee will have an opportunity to review your comments."

Call (402) 471-2628 today. Ask for Dusty Vaughan or Rochelle Mallett, Senator Fischer's Legislative Aide, who will be handling LB 165.

You can also email Dusty at dvaughan@leg.ne.gov.

Thank you and God bless you.

Kathleen Bills
