STRATTON, Nebraska -- Wilbur L. "Web" Wyss, 83, died Friday (Dec. 31, 2010), at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman, Nebraska.

He was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Hitchcock County, Nebraska on the family farm south of Stratton, to John and Ida Mae (Losey) Wyss. Web attended District 34 grade school south of Stratton, and later attended Stratton High School where he graduated in 1947.

Web served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Web lived for a short time in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with his sister, Idabelle, where he worked in a factory. He then returned to Stratton and worked at Miller Weeder. After the death of his father, Web and his brother, Howard, became partners in the family farm where they raised wheat, fed fat cattle, and raised a few hogs.

In 1982, Web was united in marriage to Helen (Pierce) Miller. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Stratton. Web enjoyed fishing and loved watching all kinds of sports.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Helen in 1997; sisters, Melba, Isabelle, Jonetta and Donna Mae; brothers, Alfred and Willis; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Wyss.

Survivors include his brother, Howard Wyss of Stratton; niece, Dee Ann Eden and husband, Larry; nephew, Steven Wyss, all of McCook, Nebraska; great-nephew, Matt Eden and wife, Sheila of McCook; close friends, Chris Reid and wife, Kathy and Marilyn Kadlecek, all of Stratton; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. (CST), at Community United Methodist Church in Stratton with the Revs. Brian Fong and Kevin Fink officiating. Interment with military honors will follow services at Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton.

Memorials may be given in his name to S.W.A.T.S (Southwest Area Training Services) in McCook.
