More memories of 'old building'

Friday, October 22, 2010

Dear Editor,

My memories of the "old building" are some different than Mr. Trail's.

The cigar store was owned for years by Harold Hensley. When he retired, he sold it to Everett "Randy" Randolph. When Randy died, his wife, Thema, leased the business and sold it to Brooks Jeweler, which had their business at the west end of the building by the alley.

Merlin Kefield CPA, had his tax business on the second floor. His wife, Mary, owned the woman's dress shop up on the other end of the block, called "Mary K."

I remember Larry's Cafe, but was on the east side of Norris behind Dunbar's Shoe Store, that later burned down.

Well, we can thank the Romanoff family for what left us -- it is a shame the old hospital apartment building is sitting [empty, and] will end up like West Ward.

Thanks for your time.

Olivia Bruntz,

McCook
