What would they think?
Dear Editor,
I wonder what George Washington, Abe Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson would say about the current problems in our nation's capital?
Many people think that our federal government is "top heavy" right now. Our country's government was set up so there would be a division of power between the nation and the states.
Checks and balances were planned by our founding fathers. They divided the powers between legislative, executive and judicial branches of the government. More attention needs to be paid to the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. set the trend for constitutions.
Now over two centuries later, only six countries do not have a constitution.
Our national contention is bad for our democracy. As Lincoln said, "a nation divided against itself cannot stand."
Instead of solving problems, we continue to argue.
