Bison girls 2nd at Alliance golf meet

Monday, September 27, 2010

ALLIANCE, Nebraska -- McCook's girls high school golf team got a sneak preview of the layout for the upcoming Class B-4 District meet Friday, Sept. 24, at the Alliance Invitational.

The Bison girls should be pretty optimistic about the district meet after Friday's competition.

McCook finished second in the team standings at the meet held at Sky View Golf Course, the site of the B-4 District meet Oct. 4.

Scottsbluff was strong again, as the Bearcats claimed the Alliance title with a low team score of 325 strokes. The Bison totaled 357 strokes, and Gering was third at 361.

The top three teams at the B-4 District meet qualify for the 2010 Class B state meet.

District meet preview

Coach Randy Ryser said his girls didn't all post their best scores, but they will be in good shape at districts if they can at least duplicate last Friday's effort at the district competition.

"If everybody plays the same we ought to qualify (for state) the day of the district," Ryser said. "We got a good indication of what the teams are like that are going to be there."

The host Bulldogs, Cozad, Gering, Lexington, Ogallala, Scottsbluff and Sidney will compete with McCook at the district meet. All those teams were at Alliance last week.

Megan Vetrovsky led McCook at Alliance. The freshman shot a best-ever round of 81 over 18 holes, with rounds of 40 and 41, to finish fifth in the individual standings. Teammate Kaylee Samway was right behind in sixth place with rounds of 43 and 41 for an 84 total.

Shelby Allen had a 95 for the Bison, while Megan Rokusek had a 97.

Kaylee Koeppen of Scottsbluff earned individual medalist honors with a 75.

Conference meet Oct. 1

McCook will prep for the district meet with a tough Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference meet Friday at the Lochland Country Club in Hastings starting at 10 a.m. The B-4 District meet at Alliance will be played Monday, Oct. 4.
