Midget Baseball Sluggers Tournament this weekend

McCook Midget Baseball Association summer youth leagues are winding down to the finish line.

The season-ending Sluggers Tournament is on tap this weekend, with games played Friday through Sunday, June 25-27, at Felling Field, East 7th and F Streets.

The Sluggers Division, featuring six teams, uses a pitching machine to deliver the baseball to home plate.

Tournament action will open Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Felling Field. The double-elimination championship tourney continues all day Saturday with six games scheduled, leading up to Sunday afternoon's tournament finals.

The Pepsi Blue Claws won the Sluggers Division regular-season championship by finishing with a 5-0 record. The Blue Claws drew the top seed for this weekend's tournament. Runner-up in the regular season was the John's Service & Repair Hot Rods, the second seed in the Sluggers Tournament.

The Optimist Timber Rattlers will face the Green Turf Lawncare Grasshoppers Friday at 5:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to play the Pepsi Blue Claws Saturday at 10 a.m. Friday's second game will match the Lifetime Eyecare Lookouts and Bison Dental Knights at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to meet John's Service & Repair Hot Rods Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Loser's bracket action continues Saturday at 1 and 2:30 p.m., followed by the winner's bracket final at 4 p.m., and the loser's bracket semifinal at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday afternoon's games will feature the loser's bracket final at 1 p.m., followed by the tournament finals at 3 p.m. (and 5 p.m. if necessary).
