Relay For Life

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Dear Editor,

At the committee meeting, which was held on March 30, the committee members in attendance discussed the future of the 2010 Relay For Life of Southwest Nebraska.

The committee members agreed that there is still an interest in holding a Relay For Life event in Southwest Nebraska, but no one was able to step into the chair role.

In addition to the chair vacancy, there are other vital positions within the committee that remain unfilled.

As you all know, Relay For Life is a fun and worthwhile experience and the planning that goes into creating such an awesome event requires dedication and participation by many people. Since the vacant committee positions were not filled, we will be combining the Relay For Life of Southwest Nebraska with the Relay For Life of Furnas County in an attempt to allow Relayers in your community to continue in their fight against cancer. This new arrangement would not affect the programs and services provided in Southwest Nebraska in any way.

Relay For Life participants would still be able to fundraise and publicize in Southwest Nebraska as usual, the only major changes would be the location of the event and the location of the Committee meetings.

This year they would be held in Arapahoe instead of McCook. The merger of these two events holds the possibility of creating one of the most successful Relay For Life events in your area. This means more money raised to help people in your community fight back against this disease that has affected too many.

The Relay For Life of Furnas County will be held on June 25 at 7 p.m. at the Arapahoe City Park, 507 7th St., Arapahoe, Nebraska.

Furnas County Chair Linda Leising and Committee are excited to welcome Southwest Nebraska teams to help them fight back against cancer. Locally, Janet Rippe has volunteered to be the point of contact between local teams and the Furnas County Committee.

If you are interested in continuing your participation in Relay For Life, please contact Janet at (308) 340-6318 or jrippe@heartlandcattle.com.
