Choose ACE

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Dear Editor,

The Nebraska Choice Gas selection period is set for April 16 through April 29 this year. This is an opportunity for residents of McCook to choose their natural gas supplier for the year.

McCook is a member of ACE, the Public Alliance for Community Energy. Formed in 1998 by Nebraska communities, ACE is the only not-for-profit, community-owned supplier in the program.

McCook is one of 71 member communities of ACE. The City of McCook became a member of ACE because it believes in ACE's mission of providing competition so customers have the opportunity to receive the lowest price possible and also to keep more money in Nebraska.

As a member, McCook has a representative on the ACE board of directors and shares in any excess revenue distributions. ACE has returned more than $845,000 to its Nebraska member communities since it was formed, including $44,454 to McCook. This is a major benefit of ACE as compared to investor-owned natural gas suppliers that send their profits to shareholders, many who may be out of state.

In addition to the not-for-profit benefits of ACE, 10 residential customers will have a chance to win free natural gas for a year. Contest details are on the ACE Web site at www.ACEnergy.org

I encourage you to keep ACE's mission in mind when choosing your natural gas supplier. By choosing ACE, you're also supporting McCook and saying * yes" to a community-owned, not-for-profit natural gas supplier.

Respectfully,

Dennis Berry,

Mayor
