HOLDREGE -- Donald LeRoy Carlson, 87 years of age, passed away on Friday (March 26, 2010) at his home in Holdrege. There will be no services as his family is honoring his wish for cremation.

Donald was born on Oct. 5, 1922 on a farm located one mile west of Funk in Phelps County, Neb., the fourth of five children born to Carl F. and Mabel (Johnson) Carlson. He attended rural school in Phelps County through the eighth grade and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1939.

Donald worked in service stations and the auto parts business all his life.

In 1942 he was united in marriage to Deloris "Babe" Marriner and to this union three children were born, Constance, Steven and Richard. Prior to retirement, Donald and his son, Steve, owned and operated Sidles/Mr. Automotive in Hastings, Neb.

Donald and Babe returned to Holdrege in 1997, where he enjoyed the McDonald's coffee gang and the YMCA.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clinton; a son-in-law, Gordon Bennett; and brothers-in-law: Chester Johnson and Vaughn Plock.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Babe; three children, Connie Bennett of Lexington, Neb., Steven Carlson of Hastings and Richard Carlson and his wife, Jan of Bennington, Neb.; three grandchildren, Curt Bennett of Lexington, Neb., Barbe Ostdiek of Houston, Texas, Perry Carlson of Hastings, Neb.; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Johnson of Holdrege; two brothers, Ralph Carlson and his wife, Margaret of Lincoln, Neb., Samuel Carlson and his wife, Donna of Holdrege; sisters-in-law, Loraine Carlson of Holdrege, Judy Plock of Kearney, Neb., Cathy Marriner of Boulder, Colo., Alice Lebcke and her husband, Jerry of Leporte, Colo.; brothers-in-law, Gerald Marriner and his wife, Pat of Boulder, Bill Marriner and his friend, Sherry of Boulder; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
