Letter to the Editor

Different memories

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Dear Editor,

Hi. I'm back for a short visit; read with interest the Santa Claus Lane story.

That is surely not the way I remember it. It was the creation of a Mr. Swanson -- he had the Swanson Sign Co. if I recall. The signs were made by them; there were sponsors for each one and Mr. Swanson invented that paint that would show up so bright when the lights hit the signs.

I'm sure Carl Orvis had a hand in making them, he was a great artist, he painted pictures that hung in the senior high school and a beautiful portrait of an Indian for the college.

For several years there was no Santa Lane, until Norma Strunk found them in a building, took them, cleaned and painted them with several volunteers. She has since died, but there is a sign at the beginning of the lane in her memory.

They have since again been redone by Debben and Dave and I hope it will be there for many years thanks to Mr. Swanson and Co., Norma Strunk, and Debben and Dave.

Well, thanks again for your time, more next time I am here.

Olivia Bruntz,

North Platte
