Letter to the Editor

Bad times coming

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Dear Editor,

I was amazed and dismayed to read the Open Forum letter from Eldon Moore in support of President Barack Hussein Obama.

Because our nation was founded as a Christian nation, we have enjoyed wonderful blessings and tremendous success from the Lord. People from other nations have flocked to the U.S. and are still standing in line to come here, because it's still the land of opportunity and freedom.

Because of freedom and opportunity, Eldon Moore has been able to build a huge farming and cattle feeding operation and he also served selflessly for 30 years as our county commissioner for which I commend him. However, I would ask him to take a much closer look at President Obama and his unconstitutional agenda. Yes, there is a movement under way to have him impeached because he trashes the constitution to inaugurate his agenda. American's are in revilement of him and the Democrats who have tried to push his and their agenda, holding meetings and voting, in the middle of the night, to attain their goals. Republicans put forth many sound healthcare proposals but they were never allowed by Senator Reid or Rep. Nancy Pelosi to make it out of committee.

Eldon, please take note of what's happening around the country. Virginia and New Jersey have elected Republican governors. And what about Democratic Massachuset's who just elected a Republican, Scott Brown as their senator. Coakley thought she was a shoo-in and President Obama derided Scott Brown for driving an old pickup with over 200,000 miles on it. "Anybody can buy an old pickup" he said. However, Brown won going away.

Eldon, Democratic senators and representatives, up for re-election in 2010 are resigning left and right rather than face the humiliation of certain defeat. The polls show them far behind their Republican opponents. Our own senator, Ben Nelson, will never get re-elected in Nebraska. His other "home city of Omaha" booooed him out of a pizzeria. Yes, he served with honor, as our governor for two terms and won his senate seat with a tremendous plurality of 27 percent.

Paul Ellis and I attended his townhall meetings at Kearney and McCook. He solemnly promised, "My vote is not for sale" on the Healthcare legislation. However the corrupt Senator from Nevada, Harry Reid, bought his vote with "The Nebraska" or more famously "The Cornhusker Option."

President, George H. W. Bush didn't get re-elected because he said "Read my lips, no new taxes" and then he signed a bill for new taxes rather than vetoing it.

Eldon, President Obama's reckless spending threatens the very existence of our nation. He has spent more in his first year in office than George Bush spent in his eight years in office. Bernanke is running the presses day and night to print and flood the world with money (essentially worthless).

Very soon, we will have runaway inflation and we will all be out of business. Obama just submitted a budget that will increase the national debt by $1.3 trillion dollars, instead of the $250 billion, Bush asked for. Human Events, the National Conservative Weekly, says, President Obama Still Backs Job-Destroying Energy/Global Warming Agenda, also he still wants to push through a healthcare bill that we can't afford. Will we be able to survive as a nation until the Republicans take control?

With deep concern,

Paul Schneider

McCook

  • Will you Republicans and Democrats stop fighting and come to a solution for this economy and healthcare. Stop blaming each other. If you republicans don't like what the democrats are proposing, then PROPOSE SOMETHING. Fighting and griping about all the negative is getting EVERYONE alike absolutely NO WHERE!

  • I am not sure why smart people still support the insanity in Washington.

  • Paul, Thank you for voicing your opinion about problems in our 'Representative' Government. Our National future does look a bit bleak.

Rural Citizen, please note that Paul mentioned that offerings from the Republican side, didn't make it out of committee. That means they were trying, and were shut down by the majority side of Congress.

Perhaps, in the very near future, there will be a bit of a better power balance, and sanity will reign a bit better, if our spending hasn't already pushed our economy over the cliff. Only a short time will tell.

  • Weren't the store shelves supposed to be empty by now?

Ya know, when you proudly demand an audience every Sept. and announce that it is going to be a rough winter, eventually, or occasionally, you will be right.

You really don't sound much different than the most bigoted of people that I hear on a daily basis in this community.

  • I agree with Chaco1 and Hulapopper. The only thing I miss about not getting the Gazette is the target my bird got to have every Friday.

We need a government of, by, for, and about the people. The sooner we can elect people who are centrist the better off we'll all be as far as I'm concerned. Let's work to get rid of the Republican Plank, the Democratic Plank, the Religious Platform and the Socialist Left.

Let's keep Sen. Nelson in office and make it known to one and all that he is the type of elected official we want running the country; one who isn't afraid of working with the other side when it's for the good of all the people, not just the chosen few.

  • Old grouch I could not disagree more with you. I don't want a centrist governemnt. I am a small l libertarian and a fiscal conservative I don't want to compromise that away in the interest of getting along. I certainly don't want Ben back he isn't what I want a wishy washy guy who goes which ever way the wind blows in the interest of getting re elected.

  • Paul go and crawl in the sand and bury your head you have been preaching the end of the world in your religion zelots columns since i met you 30-40 years ago in church and i never returned to that church ever after your talk and outlook. You told all the year 2000 was the longest all us in the would live and today 2010 we are still kicking. Yes we have big issues to solve and it will not be easy. I voted Republican almost 90% of the time and would like to know who on that side is any better than the other. Both sides have crazy zelots like you that spout stuff nobody likes except their followers like you do in your column. Maybe helping solve problems vs preaching the end is near a better way???
