Send Bibles

Tuesday, February 2, 2010
Dear Editor,

The recent natural disaster in Haiti has claimed thousands of lives.

I urge all Christians to send Bibles to the survivors.

That way, when they read the word of God, they will have food, water and shelter.

Steve Stramel,

McCook

How is reading a fiction going to provide food, water and shelter? In fact there isn't any book going to provide it. Maybe you could chew it or put it on top of your head and that would give you food and shelter but no water so you will still die. Another thing the author doesn't realize, the vast majority of these people can't read and the one that can don't read English.

Haiti doesnt want your bibles, they want your money, food, and water. I find it odd that I can text a number and donate 10 bucks to Haiti, but nobody has ever set up anything like that for the people that are suffering in my own country. I dont have a problem with donating to help the people of Haiti, they need it, and I am happy to help if I can. However, there is a homeless mentally ill man that wonders the streets of McCook, that will eventually end up being sent to prison because none of the counties will EPC him because if they did, they would have to pay for it. The mental health care system in this state will not take him in, because he has no health insurance, and what little family he has, cannot afford to take guardianship and be held accountable for his treatment. Why hasnt anything been set up for people like that in our own back yard?
