Letter to the Editor

May she forever stand

Thursday, December 31, 2009

Dear Editor,

This will be my last comments to columnist Dick Trail's columns in the McCook Daily Gazette, specifically his last in the Dec. 29, 2009, issue, because I will not be reading his columns any more. He has a right to express his opinions, but to trash a person (Sen. Nelson) by comparing him to a prostitute is "Rush Limbaugh" style my-o-my, just how low can partisanship go?

As far as blaming Sen. Nelson for Congress embezzling the Social Security funds, I believe this is also a partisan comment.

This embezzlement has been going on for years; even in President Reagan's eight years in office, in President G.W. Bush's eight years in offices and Father Bush's four years in office. These were also mostly Republican controlled Congresses.

Social Security is a good program, it just needs for Congress to quit embezzling the funds. Just ask anyone who is living on Social Security. Social Security was put in to make people put some of their earnings toward retirement, because too many people went out of the work force with nothing saved to live on.

This embezzlement by Congress was halppening to railroad retirement also, until the unions found out about it and put a stop to it. Too bad Social Security doesn't have a watchdog also, but blaming Sen. Nelson for this embezzlement is foolish as both parties are guilty.

I don't think columnist Trail needs to encourage District 3 (this includes his hometown McCook) to vote Sen. Nelson, who is a Democrat, out of office, as District 3 has voted him out on about a two to one vote in his last two elections.

Districts 1 and 2 are the districts that have voted him in.

Is it coincidental that Republicans also outnumber Democrats about two to one in the third district, or could this be partisan voting?

My-o-my, maybe partisan politics has shown itselve here also. This is the way I see it!

May this United States have God's blessings, and may she forever stand in spite of our faults.

Garnet Henton,

McCook

  • Garnet,

We live in District 3 for a reason, we don't want the nanny state of districts 1 and 2. I couldn't find any information of the congress embezzling funds from the railroad, which is the unions job, perhaps you could help me on this one. And what is wrong with partisan politics? If Republicans out number democrats 2 to 1 here, oh well.

I also noticed you left out Fmr. President Bill Clinton, so don't cry partisan politics. I also didn't know Fmr. Presidents Reagan and George H. W. Bush had Republican congresses.

  • A person who does, or offers to do, an activity for money, despite personal dislike or dishonour.

The above is a definition of a prostitute. I think that the "Cornshucker shuckster" has brought dishonour to himself. If he had not, why would he have spent enough money to run commericals during a bowl game??? I think that add time is very expensive.

  • The recall process is a little more difficult in Nebraska. Take a look at this link.

I guess we all need to be a little more careful the next time we vote. I'm goat eyeing everyone regardless of party or affiliation.

How much is it going to cost the city to go clean up the garbage that is dumped by Ben's Statue?
