Letter to the Editor

Obama's vacation

Thursday, December 24, 2009

Dear Editor,

I do not vote for a party, I vote for the person I feel will be best for president, so I did not vote for either candidate -- went with Huckabee.

I am glad to see the year end, but fear for what the New Year will bring. I fear for our country, the people getting evicted out of their homes.

Sad news -- Obama's Christmas vacation to Hawaii has been delayed until the health plan is voted on. Sure this is sad news to the jobless, homeless and little children who will go without Christmas!

Sure Nelson will make sure the president can leave on his vacation and have a great time.

Merry Christmas.

Olivia Bruntz,

McCook

  • Olivia,

December, 2008 -- more than 700,000 U.S. workers received "pink slips" -- Lost their jobs.

December, 2009 -- Less than 200,000 U.S. workers will lose their jobs. [It ain't over until the fat lady sings, but at least we can hear her humming to loosen things up a little.]

December 2008 -- Nearly all national banks, the entire U.S. auto industry and AIG were lined up begging for federal money, or actually spending their first bail out bucks. [The sickest part, bankers who bankrupted their operations with personal greed and rank stupidity, pulled personal bonuses up to $54-Million from you and me.]

I like Huckabee and his Arkie humor. But it concerns me greatly that he simply went along with the bureaucratic pack to release more serious crime inmates than several previous governors combined.

Going along to get along ain't what we need.

Christian Ammanpour interviewed Gen. McKrystal about two weeks ago.

He related the process for determining a long term strategy in Afghan/Pak-istan.

Every time the Pentagon honchos presented their approach, they were told to sit down and discuss it with everyone else.

It took months -- but this President finally let the Pentagon Brass find the truth that we will never achieve a military victory in that mess.

ZNow, the Afghan government, U.S. State Dept., DOD, the field commanders, the nearly three dozen allies and international relief organizations are all on the same page.

It is not 50 mindsets pulling against each other.

Doesn't anyone west of the Potomac realize what an incredible achievement that is??

Getting two government departments agreeing on any one point is a miracle. Getting more than a dozen U.S. civilian operations and the military to agree goes beyond miracle.

Getting dozens of countries and international organizations to agree with the U.S. factions was not an accident.

I hear people screaming daily about the unbearable costs being piled up on Obama's Agenda.

President Obama has only been able to address Health Care Reform. None of the other important issues he ran on have been addressed.

This past 11 months have been devoted to pulling this nation's and the world's economy back from total economic depression, moving out of the "War of choice" in Iraq and focusing our efforts in Afghan'Pak-istan where there is no choice but to stop Al Qaeda and the Taliban, securing both governments and the Pakistani nuclear arsenal.

Even if you volunteer to have Bin Laden deliver one of those Pakistani nuclear warheads to your back yard -- that still leaves a lot of us with no intention to volunteer and plenty of warheads to go around.

  • One wonders if Herndon Hank will next grace us with a description of the means by which Bin Laden is supposed to get his hands on one of those nukes, and just how he proposes OBL will deliver said nuke to anyone's back yard.At that point I might warm up the shovel and start digging the hole, until then I'll just keep on keeping on, and wondering if Hank had a point to his dark musings.

  • Obama hoodwinked the United States of America. Replay what he said was going to happen and look at what has happened.

BTW he is giving himself an A. Unemployment is at 27 year highs and he is giving himself a A. How about that?

  • Wow! A commander-in-chief who tells his forces and the world they shouldn't even bother with trying to win a war because they will fail. Being told by your commander-in-chief that you can't possibly succeed so don't bother coming up with a plan to try. What a way to really inspire your troops and raise morale. Luckily for us, our President has so much military experience to draw from.
