Cartoon right on

Dear Editor,

The cartoon in Tuesdays paper hit the spot! The senators all gave themselves a nice raise, again -- they have the three jets, a few billion worth, but no money for the cost of living. Medicare has raised premiums to $112 a month, heating gas has raised their price and groceries sky high, but no COLA for us!

Guess Obama will get rid of the older people, let her starve or freeze to death!

Obama, never in the White House, is flying around day after day, costing several thousand every time to he takes off, trying to shove that health care down our throats.

Just nothing else to hurry people losing jobs, homes, our troops in harm's way.

Just is sad the situation our country is in and he did it in less than a year!

They've stolen money from Social Security, that we all put into for years, now there is no COLA.

Just wanted to "vent" my feelings and what so many others are feeling.

  • First of all it was Obama who said that there was not any COLA. This is not because "the Democratic Congress will not allow an increase in the social security COLA" but because COLA increases are based on a formula which is tied to specific economic indices and the application of that formula under current conditions does not call for an increase.

    IF you'd really listen to your Congressman and see what is being introduced is that several members of Congress have introduced bills that would provide for SS increases regardless of the COLA formula. If they pass, you get a COLA. THEY ARE TRYING TO FIGHT FOR YOU.

    On 9/24/09 House of Reps voted to eliminate premium increases for Medicare. Also, President Obama proposed an extra payment to SS recipients in 2010 to offset the absence of a COLA increase.

    BE LUCKY THAT THEY ARE WORKING FOR YOU! Us normal people who are working full time trying to make ends meet don't get the extra $$. And by the way, most employers are not handing out raises nor cost of living increases because of the downturn economy that started to take place PRIOR TO Obama's seating.

    You also need to check out the facts about him "flyin around". He has actually NOT flown around near as much as prior presidents. However as of late, he has been out advocating for things that will HELP middle Americans. Someone has to do something about the healthcare increases (insurance, cost of going to ER, etc.). Have you noticed that most of the new construction in the SW nebraska area is related to healthcare? Cambridge Hospital, McCook Hospital and new clinic? What is it about Obama wanting to control these costs that are putting people out?

    Is it that you don't like the "public option" is because you work in the healthcare field and the income might be limited if it passes?
