Letter to the Editor

Upset by road closing

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Dear Editor,

According to an article in the Gazette on July 28, Gary Dicenta informed the Red Willow County Commissioners that Hitchcock County residents who lost a road recently quickly adapted to the change. I don't know where he got his information or what road he was talking about.

Drive 719 was recently closed because of repairs needed on the bridge. Everyone I've talked to who regularly used that road is still very upset.

A public hearing was held and everyone who testified was in favor of keeping the road open, and still the commissioners voted to close it. Can we call that a democracy at work?

It appears that Mr. Dicenta convinced them to close the road before the hearing took place. There seems to have been a lot of influence in this area and he isn't an elected official who can be voted for or against.
