Letter to the Editor

Kudos for parks

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Dear Editor,

I would like to applaud our city government for the recent improvements to our McCook city parks. Norris Park is updated and a delight to walk through!

The trees are large and healthy and the new sidewalks are safer, wider, and modern. J & L construction did a very good job on the sidewalks. The new play equipment is jazzy, bright, and very attractive in design, and I see a lot of kids playing on it every day.

The walking trail east and north of the old Elks Club is well designed as well as scenic. All the new shade trees planted there are doing very well. The new fountains at Barnett park are fun to watch as well as functional.

Kyle Potthoff, Ron Maris, Matt Coulter, and Dob Neuhaus, as well as the seasonal staff, are to be commended for all their planning and hard work. I understand that many people have been involved in all the planning and work -- thank you to all who were involved!! I would also like to state that the day the McCook city council hired Kurt Fritsch as city manager was McCook's lucky day.

Mr. Fritsch is knowledgeable, professional, hard working, dedicated, experienced, and forward thinking. His leadership is valuable and appreciated. Life in McCook is very good and it is even better with beautiful, modern parks for all of us to enjoy.

Sincerely,

Peg Augustyn
