Parents grateful for response to injury

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Dear Editor,

Our son was injured during a baseball game against McCook's Legion Juniors team on May 31, 2009, at Duncan Field in Hastings. We send our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the team, their coaches and fans for the very respectful way they treated the situation.

So many people offered their help on the field while we waited for the ambulance, and, to be truthful, we don't know where everyone was from, but we do know everyone was incredibly kind and supportive.

The words of concern and support from moms, dads, and coaches were calming in a frightening situation. After the ambulance left the field, we were told that the Alma team huddled to say a prayer, and they were joined by the McCook team. Thank you for the prayers and kindness! McCook, be proud of your boys, coaches, and baseball fans.

Acts such as these inspire others to do the same. Imagine the chain reaction of kindness the team and fans have generated!

Luckily the head injury was minor and in a week Luke will be back playing more baseball.

We send our gratitude and best wishes for a terrific season. God Bless!

Sincerely,

Roger, Krista and Lukas Cox

Alma

  • Always good to hear positive about our youth! Sounds like the team and their coach represented McCook well. Keep up the good work guys.

  • Make sure you think the next time you say that all kids act the same and that sports are a waste of time. I am proud to know these young men and would like to thank the parents for supporting thier kids. It is this kind of support that made the boys join thier opponent without hesitation to help them through a tough time. Maybe we as a society could learn from a kid's game played on a simple Sunday afternoon.
