Time for a new greeting?

Friday, May 1, 2009

The potential swine flu pandemic is putting the spotlight on ways the disease is spread -- hand shaking among them.

The late Paul Harvey advocated a "snappy salute" instead of a handshake, and President Obama reluctantly abandoned the "fist bump" on the campaign trail when it was thought to be a little too hip for a statesman.

Others advocate adopting the Asian custom of a respectful bow.

Will one of them win out over the traditional handshake? We doubt it, but only time will tell.

Until then, keep the hand sanitizer handy.

Poll:

What greeting would you like to use instead of a handshake?

 Bow.
 Salute.
 Fist-bump.
 Other.
 Keep handshake.
