LACROSSE, Kan. -- Mary Lucille Stackhouse, 93, died Sunday (March 29, 2009) at Rush County Nursing Home.

She was born April 11, 1915, in rural Jewell County, Kan., to Charlie E. and Martha E. (Crumley) Stackhouse. She grew up in Jewell County and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1933. She attended Fort Hays and received her teaching certificate.

On April 11, 1936, she married Walter Raymond Stackhouse in Mankato, Kan. They lived in Alma, Lebanon, Norton and Jennings, Kan. From 1946-1967, she worked with her husband in the Stackhouse Market in Jennings.

She was a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church, Tuesday Study Club, United Methodist Women and Jennings Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter, brother, Wayne White and sister, Dorothy Jean Jamison.

Survivors include her son, Donald and wife, Leota Stackhouse of Roseville, Calif.; daughters, Peggy and husband, Terry Highfill of LaCrosse and Linda and husband, Carl Wahlmeier of Jennings; brother, Robert and wife, Theona White of Bellflower, Calif.; sister, Edna Gartrell of Stockton, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Jennings United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carrie Buhler officiating. Interment will be in the Jennings Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the church, Whispering Pines or Rush County Nursing Home.
