Dear Editor,

This is an invitation to everyone in the McCook area, whether you are young or old; live in town or in the country; or are new to this area or have lived here all your life.

The invitation is this: Make plans, right now, to attend one of three performances of "The Christmas Carol" at the Fox Theatre in McCook this week.

The classic Christmas play will be presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting at 7:30 each night. The cost of admission is a modest $5 per person.

This year's production is being planned, produced and presented by McCook Community College. Sue Watts, the director, and other members of the college team have put together an outstanding production. In fact, several members of the cast have said this could very well be the best "Carol" ever presented in McCook.

Adding significance to this year's show is the fact that it is the first in a series of "Town & Gown" performances to be presented by the college at the Fox. The purpose is to showcase McCook's outstanding college and to show the community and the area the importance of a cooperative college-community approach to education and activities.

There's another reason to come see "The Christmas Carol." Through the genius of Dickens' writing, and the characters of Scrooge and Tiny Tim, we are reminded of the true meaning of Christmas ... of the need to be giving rather than greedy.

Thanks to the college students, staff and community volunteers, we have a wonderful opportunity to come together to celebrate the start of the Christmas season. Let's show our support by attending "The Christmas Carol." It's a touching story which will uplift your spirits and make you glad you are part of a caring community.

Gene Morris,

Executive Director

McCook's Historic Fox Theatre
