Amusing law

Friday, October 31, 2008

Dear Editor,

I find the safe haven law amusing. For years, HHS and other state entities have been telling people how to raise children. Certainly, there are resources for people with problem kids, but it has been my understanding that unless you meet specific income and resource guidelines, you are out of luck, even if you exceed the guideline by a single dollar.

Why wouldn't people at their wit's end choose to drop off the kids that the state won't let them discipline? Heck, my stray cats behave better than a lot of the brats I see in the stores.

I would also like to address the issue of the Dems turning America into a Communist State. Look around you and you will see that it already is on that road. If you don't pay taxes, the IRS or the state can take your home, and so can the county you live in.

You can't do anything to improve your home without getting approval from a zoning board or the building inspector.

Beginning in June of next year, if you own a bar or cafe, you have to be "smoke free" due to a state law. It seems not to matter that the majority of your customers are smokers or in the company of smokers when they come in.

Seems pretty communist to me.

Wake up people, the federal, state, county and city governments already control almost every aspect our lives.

  • Mr Yost

It isnt just the democrats that are turning this country in to a third world country. The republicans have been trying to do the same thing. For example look at what GW has done just this past year! It is time we start thinking independantly and not tote the "party line". We need to find leaders from the ranks of common people that will address the real needs of "THE PEOPLE"

    Respectfully

    Karen

  • If you look at the long term statistics the Dems have been trying to turn this country into a welfare state since the first Dem President initiated the welfare programs, and they are the ones that ruined social security. Pres. bush may have had some rough months lately but he nor the Republican Party are responsible for the state of long term affairs. Kudos to Mr. yost

  • How is it that it's the Democrats fault with regards to the countries problems when the democrats have only held the presidency for 8 out of the last 31 years? Seems to me that the Republicans have had enough chances and have royalled screwed everyone...rich, poor and everyone in between. As stated once before, there will be no perfect president, neither one of them will make everyone happy. Just vote for who you believe will do the best for YOU and not worry about what everyone else is trying to preach to you and make up along the way to make the other look bad.

  • Mr. Yost, if you're not paying taxes, you're breaking a law, yes, incase you were unaware, republicans and democrats both enforce this!

The building and zoning restrictions are not only YOUR safety but those whom are around you.

As for the smoking ban, if the majority of those businesses would have kept up on their ventilation systems, we wouldn't have this problem and incase you forgot it was "we the people" who wanted that ban...Furthermore if you want it that bad, go buy a building next to your favorite watering hole and make it a smoking bar!!!

  • I agree with the no smoking ban, I used to live in Washington state over a year ago. and alot of smokers through a tissy fit because they could not smoke in resturaunts and bars anymore and if they wanted to smoke they had to be over 100 feet from the business. I personally think if you smoke as bad as that is ,you should not be putting pollutants to others around you and children go smoke your cancer stick elsewhere and if you smoke and come in after please spray yourself with febreeze or calone or perfume as you stink ,you may not know it but you do and your nose and sense of smell is not there to realize it. I also think FULLERS needs to improve on quite a bit the resturaunt is always dirty ,tables need to be replaced and seats and it needs to be no smoking , we have our son in there at times and the whole resturaunt will be covered with smoke you can see.I know It's owned by the railroad ,but geez improve the resturaunt and the parking lot,its a hazerdous accident waiting to happen.having drunks come in swearing and being loud and annoying is not good for people trying to enjoy a meal go back to the bar or your house if you want to cuss and scream. tis bad enough that a majority of mccook wants to shut fullers down, and they want more resturaunts here applebees red lobster, perkins and a few regular stores ,target, kmart, more close places and food places to shop. the economy isnt getting any better and food is getting so costly along with all the other stuff, the elderly say we don't have enough to do and enough selection of stores and resturaunts to go to . things NEED to improve. the parking lost are all torn up Alco,Ymca the roads are all bumpy ,improve it make the town of Mccook nice looking like it once was.

  • Need to have more resturaunts and close or improve Fullers resturaunt make it non smoking make drunks not allowed in there, or as alot want shut it down, improve roads ,Alco and Ymca perking lot , make more resturaunts and places to shop Target,Kmart etc.. lower prices. make Mccook nice looking like it once was..Make talling and texting on your cell phone iiligal and finable ,washington state doesnt allow any texting and its close to a 400 dollar fine for doing it and you can't talk on a cell phone unless you are on hands free bluetooth headset. make it a law here .its getting out of hand.. as for smoking under age ,washington charges you 100 dollars each time makes it a mistermenor after the third and calls yor parents to make sure you are not lying about your age, they also make you if you are just getting a drivers license you have to have a adult with you for 6 months and you are not allowed to have 3 teens in your car at a time. There is alot that needs to be changes here
