False 'facts'
Dear Editor,
In a recent column Mike Hendricks proposed a test for voters. [www.mccookgazette. com/story/1470881.html] His list of "facts" about Barack Obama, were all false, (his opinion) and if a prospective voter marked any wrong he/she wouldn't be allowed to vote. Mike's column incensed one of my readers who gave me an earful and challenged me to respond.
I have a proposed list, courtesy of radio talk show host Dennis Prager, [http://jewishworldreview.com/1008/prager102808.php3] to balance out Mike's test:
1. George W. Bush lied America into war.
2. Tens of thousands of Iraqis and more than 4,000 Americans have been killed in a war waged in order to line the pockets of Vice President Dick Cheney's friends.
3. The Constitution has been trampled on.
4. America has become a torturing country.
5. America's poor have become far more numerous and far more downtrodden.
6. Racism is endemic to American society.
7. John McCain has run a racist campaign against Barack Obama.
8 Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska is a religious zealot and an idiot.
9. Christian fundamentalists are on the verge of taking over America and turning it into a theocracy.
10. America is on the road to fascism.
As it happens none of the above is true. Sadly though Mike's friends on the left believe all these things. These principles and more are the very things that Barack Obama is promising to "Change" when he gets elected. "Change we can believe in!"
I believe that America, with all our flaws and current economic problems, is still the greatest country in the world.
What the left believes is not true and if they get the chance to make the changes they have in mind freedom and the America we know and love will be gone. Their new America will be less than second rate and not what I want to leave to my grandchildren.
Yes Mike we agree that there should be a test to pass before one votes. Where we don't agree is who should write the questions and grade the answers.
What we really need are informed voters!
