'United' questions

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Dear Editor,

I just read the Open Forum letter from Mr Randall and it did bring to mind some questions about the candidates that are banding together.

Personally I think this is a very dangerous situation for individuals to band together as a voting group before they are on the board. It would be even more dangerous if they are planning on doing this if they get on the board.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the members' job to hear each item and review it as a board and make their decision form the pertinent information and not band together beforehand and say we're going to cast our votes as a block of four?

I guess I'm thinking that should not be the way to do this and it makes me wonder who is going to tell them how to vote or are they going to get together before the meeting and decide their vote (not sure on the legality of that, either) or are they going to only talk amongst themselves at the meeting and exclude the other board member from their discussions because they're not part of their voting block?

Maybe these United Candidates need to address these questions. too. My other question is about Mr Haag. The last I heard about him was a picture in the Gazette and he was a banker for one of the large McCook Banks.

He sure didn't appear to be a banker in ther photos for the paper but I guess right now I wouldn't want anyone to know I was a banker, either. Thanks.

Gale K. Bayhuc,

Danbury

  • Read Mr. Cappel's letter in the opinion section. I think he may answer some or all of your questions. I too worry about this.

  • Election season seems to spur people to fully utilize their freedom of speech and in cases such as these to spout off their personal opinions and ramblings as the honest to goodness truth.

If you have something to say or an opinion to share that's great and you are completely entitled to do so. However you also have the responsibility to have some knowledge about the subject.

It is indeed "the members' job to hear each item and review it as a board and make their decision form the pertinent information" yet it is also the job of voters to be knowledgeable about the candidates and issues on the ballot, rather than making assumptions or judgment based on rumors.

You also mentioned Mr. Haag as unsuitable for the position because he is supposedly a banker (despite lacking the proper wardrobe!?!)

If we are to make such quick and radical judgments, then allow me to make some about you. Gale K. Bayhuc, from Danbury, you are an uneducated, gutless individual who lacks even the integrity to attach a legitimate name to these statements.

    Sincerely,

    Captain Obvious

  • Mr. Captain Obvious, a person's opinion is just that and we as taxpayers have the right to make OUR OWN DECISIONS...It's too bad that these people running can't make a decision for themselves and run strong without the others. Banding together on a committee seems uncharacteristic for a leader who wants to stand out, help the people that elect him and seems to be very cowardly. I was just wondering if they are able to go to the bathroom without one of the other's following? I have no disrespect for any of these people running, however don't feel that it's right to band together in an election. Stand out for yourself, don't hide behind someone else. If in the end you agree, great but don't band together before.

I only have one opinion with regards to Mr. Haag. I don't know him however if he is able to represent the landowners with educated and non-bias reasoning then does it really matter what profession he's in?

  • If I remember right some of these same people that were elected to NRD last time, and are bad mouthing the new candidates 'ran in a pack' to get elected, seems I remember more than 1 name on those spiffy blue signs they had. But, maybe that was different
