Adopt-a-Dog Month

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Dear Editor,

The American Humane Association and The McCook Humane Society are working to help find homes for homeless dogs during Adopt-A-Dog Month this October.

Locally, The McCook Humane Society will be observing the event so stop by to meet some of the dogs and puppies of all breeds and sizes waiting for loving families.

The McCook Humane Society has a lot of great dogs just waiting to find permanent, loving homes. When you adopt a dog from the animal shelter you're not only saving a life, you're also getting a wonderful companion.

For people who already enjoy the daily rewards of dog companionship, The McCook Humane Society encourages all dog owners to celebrate Adopt-A-Dog Month in other ways, such as:

* Contribute time, money or needed supplies to the animal shelter's efforts to improve the lives of animals in the McCook area. When donating supplies, call the shelter first to see what they need.

* Equip all pets with a reliable form of ID, such as tags or a microchip. Only about 15 percent of dogs who end up in animal shelters are ever reunited with their families. A reliable ID is their "ticket" home.

* Spay or neuter your dog. There are already too many animals and not enough loving homes to go around!

* Visit the McCook animal shelter today to meet your new best friend! And visit for more information on Adopt-A-Dog Month.

Find the love of your life at the McCook Humane Society Animal Shelter located at 100 South St. in McCook. Phone (308) 345-2372. Hours open for adoption are 2 - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon - 4 p.m. on Saturday. Visitors and volunteers are always welcome.
