Letter to the Editor

Respect her views

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Dear Editor,

The election is coming up fast and election signs are slowly popping up in yards around town. It is a nice display of your political beliefs, views, and most importantly the candidate that you support and believe would be best in office.

Neighbors and other citizens of McCook should respect your political views, especially if they are different than their own. It is important in a conservative town to be proud of your liberal views.

So when I woke up Tuesday morning to find that my Obama and Kleeb signs had been stolen from my yard, I was not only upset but I was angry. I may have different views than Republicans, but I am still a citizen of this town and I still uphold the laws.

Last I checked, theft and trespassing were both illegal. I would expect this in a big city, but not in McCook.

  • Sadly, this doesn't surprise me.

  • You have the same rights as anyone, and the guilty party/ies, should be honorable enough to return your signs.

It is a sorry event when people feel rights are only for themselves, and not for others.

We have these types in every aspect of our culture.

    Sorry, Arley Steinhour

  • That's funny, I can't think of anyone who would want those signs!

  • How old are you Jim? Because you are incredibly immature. Act your age and respect opinions.

  • Shaina, you are not alone! My Obama/Kleeb signs were also stolen! I live where there is police patrol several times a day too!

It doesn't surprise me this happened in this small town! In big cities, people have more to do with their time than to be so small.

Yes, Arley, it would be honorable for their return, after all, the thief knows where they got them!

  • I'm sure it was just some kids, trying to make some fun. I don't agree with the kind of fun they chose, but I truly don't think it was done because you are a democrat and they are possibly republican. Kids do this stuff all the time, it's kind of like pumpkin smashing, which isn't right either, but they get bored, and so these are the things that they do.

  • You're right BKE504, buut then comes a day when they pay for christmas decorations, pumpkins, etc...and some kid steals it and they realize what a d***headed thing they did...That's the joy of karma, as blunt and harsh as it may be...
