LENEXA, Kan. -- Cleo E. Bastin, 91, died Friday (Oct. 3, 2008) in Lenexa, Kan.

He was born Sept. 24, 1917, southwest of Menlo, Kan., in Thomas County to Harvey and Edith (Hawkins) Bastin. He grew up in Rexford and Menlo area and attended school in Menlo.

He entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. On July 1, 1945, he married Grace Irene Sowers in Gem, Kan. They lived in Colby, Kan., for one year, before moving to their farm northeast of Rexford in southwest Decatur County. He was a farmer and rancher.

He attended the Rexford Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace and three brothers, Marion, Dean and Alvin Bastin.

Survivors include his son, John Bastin and wife, Karen of Salina, Kan.; daughters, Edith Adamson and husband, Elby of Clay Center, Kan., and Janet Carson and husband, Mark of Lenexa, Kan.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at Rexford Community Church in Rexford with the Rev. Lane Purcell officiating. Interment will be in the Rexford Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden and Sunday from 1 - 2 p.m., at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Gideons, Rexford Community Church or donors choice.
