Plans heating up for Balloon Fest

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Striving to become one of Nebraska's leading family events, event coordinators of McCook Balloon Fest are in full swing on this year's event, which will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Red Willow County Fairgrounds in McCook.

This year's show will feature a motorcycle show sponsored by A.B.A.T.E. of Nebraska District 12, along with Sehnert's Bakery & Bieroc Café, the Kiwanis Club, and, every child's favorite, the Sno Place.

Joining the ranks of great ballooning events such as the Colorado Balloon Classic and the Rocky Mountain Balloon Festival, McCook Balloon Fest has the potential to really draw attention to Southwest Nebraska.

Eleven pilots are currently registered to fly, and several other pilots are still being considered. It's anticipated that as many as 15 balloons could fly this year.

These hot air balloon pilots are brought in with the help of local businesses that sponsor the event. All area businesses are welcome to participate, and Burner and Gondola Level Sponsors get the opportunity to experience ballooning first-hand with hot air balloon rides during the event.

How can you experience the thrill of riding in a hot air? Businesses or individuals can sponsor a balloon during McCook Balloon Fest, Friday on Saturday. For more information on becoming a sponsor, please visit the Web site at www. mccookballoonfest.com or call Linda Henthorn at (308) 345.2280.
