Global Warming: Fact or Fiction?

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Alanna O'Byrne, McCook:

I think that it's blown out of proportion.

Phil Perkinson, McCook:

I have no idea.

Mike Brown and Tina Morgan, McCook:

Well, it is getting hotter. If it gets up too much higher I suppose we're in for some real trouble.

Charles Mulligan, Haigler:

It's happening now. I think that before you even ask that question, you need to see Al Gore's DVD "An Inconvenient Truth." They also have a Web site. You should check it out and think seriously about it.

  • From what I have read, it has been warming up since the last Ice Age. As I recall, just a few years ago, maybe in the 70's or early 80's, they were predicting another Ice Age. As for Al Gore, he also invented the Internet, he is only 1 Bud short of a six pack.

  • Know your facts and look at both sides.

Watch Al Gore's movie, you should be informed into whats going on. However, do not trust his movie for your data. There at least 9 areas of inaccuracy, and not all areas were reviewed.

Another movie to watch is The Global Warming Swindle. The initial movie did have a inaccuracy in a graph but is more accurate than Al Gore's movie.

If after your research you're still conviced CO2 will cause a problem, there are ways to combat it without reducing emissions. CO2 capture technologies are just getting started.I personally support eletric vehicles and nuclear plants to reduce our dependence on oil.

I do not believe the scare tatics the liberal/greens are using on the masses. I'm not convinced they really believe them either. Al Gore is getting rich on this and his company stands to make him a billionaire. As a huge user of carbon emissions Al Gore does pay for carbon offsets, to his own company. I believe their approach to control and change peoples behavior is unethical.

  • Please consider reading the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's reports. The summary reports are short and fairly easy to read.

Yes, global warming is real. It's too bad ignorance, misinformation and apathy have pervaded our society. We might be able to fix this mess if we encouraged our legislators to take bold steps.

So far we have not demanded action, and the politicians keep collecting campaign cash from the energy interests. Something's gotta change.

  • I would have to agree with george

  • Of coarse there is Climate change! There always has been always will be! Now Al Gore says it's because of YOU! Did you know Gullible isn't in the dictionary? There was just two ships stuck in the Ice North of Barrow. Some College Graduate predicted that the Arctic Ice would be gone in a couple years. Ask him to bet 2 years pay on it!

  • And the na-sayers all listen to RUSH. Just wondering when people will wake up to the fact that we (the human race) can not continue to pollute the earth at the pace it is happening and not have consequences. Now blow hard Rush says it's all a bunch of garbage etc. and Gore is at the other end of the stick. Why not at least meet in the middle and start from there. But first places like China, and India need to start to clean up their act. The United States also has a long way to go, perhaps a much needed change in leadership will help, at least McCain aknowledges there is a problem. Infosage, so what if Gore is getting rich (as you say) is that not the credo of the right, free markets, capitalism, etc. Is that not what Cheney and his puppit W have done with the war they claimed had to be started. How do you spell Haliburton?

    -- Posted by goarmy67 on Tue, Aug 19, 2008, at 12:45 PM
  • How do you spell Puppet!? I guess I didn't realize that the only reason I was intelligent was because of Rush. Is that any different than you listening to the biggest liar and hypocrite in modern history...A.K.A. Al Gore? I always thought I was inteligent because I am always learning by reading and reseraching things, not just listening to the radio and watching tv.

Maybe you should learn about Al Gore's personal energy use, as well as his friends' and supporters. You should find out how many miles these people that are telling me how to run my business and do with my time travel on private jets criss crossing the county for golf games and get-togethers. These people ONLY want to save the planet if WE do it, not them. Ask them to give up their private jets and million dollar homes first!

This planet has been warming up ever since the last ice age and we had nothing to do with it, any 5th grader can come to that conclusion. Unfortunately 5th graders think our skin is going to melt because of Global Warming and no Ozone caused by republicans because the teachers unions have successfully molded a entire country of "rank and file" liberals that do nothing but brain-wash our kids in the bigger cities.

Do I beleive everything I hear? No. Do I believe everything I wrote whole heartedly...no. But I do to a certain degree. This does come off pretty right-winged, but in order to keep a balance with these crazy left wingers, we have to be strong in our beliefs to counter them. We need to realize that these people are working against America behind our backs and it's not about saving thye plantet like so many dweebs think. It's about power and money. Check out why AL Gore is now selling carbon credits throught some bogus non profit org. Yeah right. Power and money are what drives these people, otherwise they'd practice what they preach!

  • Sorry about the puppet there, Justin, but before you sling too much, how do you spell believe? We all have a slip of the old fingers now and then don't we?

You can throw out all the "publican" talking points you want, but in order for the earth to survive the 2 sides need to meet at least in the middle and start doing something! Or else my great great grandkids will be paying the price of not doing anything, right along with all the debt they will be paying off due to the present and past spending practices of this country!(both parties to blame on that!)

  • Sorry about the spelling comment...it's just funny when some one uses a "how do you spell____" comment to prove a point and then misspell words right after that. You kinda have to chuckle..right?

Yes, both parties need to stop the filibustering and hardcore party line stances to lead our country back to greatness, but if you can't see through the scam that Al Gore and is hacks are putting on, then all we and our grand kids are going to be "paying for" is Al Gore's great grand kids' BMW's and countryside mansions while the rest of the "former" greatest country-in-the-world are suffering to make ends meet to pay all the "Global Warming Taxes" and carbon credits.

Meanwhile the Chinese will STILL be the LARGEST polluter the world times 10 and no one can do a **** thing aboutn it because commies don't give a crap about the planet. I'm all for saving the planet, I like nature too, but punishing only Americans is assinine as hell and I'm not going to stand for it. We are not the only polluters in the world. We just have more cash to pay for Al Gore's mansions...that's the only difference.

    Wake up!

  • Justin:

You really need to get past the Al Gore hate and the fact that he may be making money from pushing ideas for cleaning up the environment. As I said before that's the American way, it takes money to make money! He had some and will make some more.

Yes I'm sure his ideas could be considered a scam, but what about one of the biggest scams of our time, the current Iraqi war! The one that Cheney and scrub bush sold the nation on WMD's and now is labeled as a war to liberate Iraq. Trillions of dollars and thousands of lives lost, and it could all been taken care of with a squad of expert snipers, and then Iraqis could have cleaned up their own mess, and we could have taken care of the forgotten war the one in Afghanistan, the one to get the SOB Osama! The terrible loss in both lives and money is truly tragic, losses that will affect this country for years and years. Hopefully whoever the new president is, he can bring this country together and get both "sides" to work together to bring this economy and nation back to greatness. Have you noticed that there used to be much more cooperation between the parties before we got all the blow hard "experts" on talk radio telling us what is wrong. Both sides included on this point.

But I often wonder how Rush baby can be such an expert on everything! But he has managed to make millions too, the American way, but not by harnessing wind, but by blowing hot air!!!

  • Al Gore hate? You've got to be kidding, at first I thought this was stimulating discussion, but now I see it's just assinine. You need to get over Rush, friend. You need to come to the realization that Rush is an entertainer on the radio. That's how he makes a living. He talks and people like to listen and people will pay for it. He in now way has ANY power in making or carrying out the policies of this country.

What's also tragic these days is how people, especially young people don't have a good enough education to even know how this country is supposed to work. The president isn't a dictator, judges can't make laws, and congress can't interpret them. Most people don't know enough to know when the government is running a much and other, as yourself, or too quick to lay all the blame on one person for the combined failure of EVERYONE in Washington.

  • Those who lived in SW Nebraska in the 1960s and earlier may recall that ice skating on the ponds south of the Republican was popular recreation back then. How many years has it been since those ponds froze? Do you know that in the winter the city would flood the tennis court on West 5th to use it as a skating rink?

Climate change may be cyclical, I don't know. I do know that I don't need to bring my skates if I visit McCook for Christmas. :-)

-- Posted by red willow armadillo on Wed, Aug 27, 2008, at 5:07 PM
  • Last year! How about the last two years. Heck, two winters ago we didn't need any ice skating ponds, all the streets in McCook were covered with 6" of ice for about 2 1/2 months.

Denver had it's lowest recorded high in 118 years two weeks ago, it was only about 55 degrees in the middle of AUGUST! We were in Colorado Spring that day and it was freezing cold. It snowed later that night. But I'm know for a fact that somewhere in the world it was hot...so there's got to be Global Warming.

  • I'm sorry that you think the dicussion has gotten "assinine." First of all I have no reason to get over Rush, I consider the bozo a comedian and nothing else, he is not even a good entertainer, but the died in the wool republicans of the great 3rd district of Nebraska "almost" consider the bozo a god, I have a friend that never misses his "show" and becomes angry if anyone interrupts the program in any way. He believes everything Rush says, sad very sad. When I'm in need of a good laugh I will tune in Rush baby.

Perhaps my use of the word hate was a bit harsh, but you do have a "large" dislike of Gore and his ideas, and his ability to make money from his ideas, as I have stated before, it's his right to make money, if people buy it, so what, no one has a gun to anyone's head forcing them to purchase his products.

I will admit that I dislike Bush and his cronies and I am looking forward to a regime change in Jan.09.

I have read your commments over and over and can not figure out what you were trying to convey with the "Most people don't know" comment, didn't make sense to me, but I see you included me, I sir do know about the 3 branches of our government and how they operate! If that is what you were trying to say.

Say what you want but the President has a lot to say on what does and does not get done in this country. Most people do believe that he is the "leader" of our country.

I find your comments to Armadillo somewhat humorous, perhaps you intended them to be, but global warming theory also includes that some areas will become cooler while others warmer. It does seems like there are changes in the climate going on,temperatures going up or down, stronger more violent storms. The ice on the streets...poor maintance not global warming.
