Letter to the Editor

Great stories

Monday, August 4, 2008

Dear Editor,

This a thank you note for the story on our old barn. You all do a great job, but a special thanks to Connie Jo. We have had many comments and compliments on that story. Pat Redfern, a former Marion resident, asked me to save some of the wood from the barn to make a frame for the Gazette story to place in our Danbury Depot Museum.

I told her I would not only save some wood, but would make the frame and have the story matted. We are making progress on the restoration of the old depot. It has a new roof, new siding, new windows and is in the process of being painted with the original red on the sides and green trim on the windows. I understand that rods need to be installed that will go the length of the building to tie the two ends together making it safer structurally.

We had hoped to have it ready by our Danbury Days event coming up in August. It looks like we are going to be unable to meet this deadline due to time limitations. It should make an interesting story when finished. We will let you know when that time arrives.

As a former pilot, I really enjoy your series of stories about Flight on the High Plains. At age 75, I am old enough to remember some of the people and events that appear in the stories. I especially enjoy reading Dick Trail's As I See It. His last story about San Antonio and his mention about The Alamo and The River Walk bring back memories from when I was in pre-flight training at near-by Lackland Air Base over 52 years ago.

Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,

Raymond E. Kelley

Danbury
